Schwarzenegger Signs Handgun Ammo Registration Bill

If by improving public safety Arnold means making it lucrative for criminal gangs to smuggle in more ammunition from out of state, he's got a point. If he means it will provide more opportunities to harass everyone who jumps through each new stupid, evil hoop the state of California imposes on the "law-abiding," and further throttle a revenue-generating segment of the economy at a time when the state is issuing worthless IOUs, then no argument.

If he means it will stop one evil person from committing an act of violence, he's simply not being truthful. [More]
Today's continued betrayal by the Hessian Kennedy necessitated a second Gun Rights Examiner column.

Freebird Turnaround?

From the latest column by Chuck Norris:
Lynyrd Skynyrd, the legendary southern band that produced hits like "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Freebird," put it well in their new song (and album with the same title), "God and Guns":
God and guns
Keep us strong
That's what this country
Was founded on
Well we might as well give up and run
If we let them take our God and guns
Huh.

Last I remember, they were singing this:

Oh, let me tell you all about it
Hand guns are made for killin'
They ain't no good for nothin' else
And if you like to drink your whiskey
You might even shoot yourself
So why don't we dump 'em, people
To the bottom of the sea
Before some ol' fool come around here
Wanna shoot either you or me

I'll need to see some substantive contributions that go beyond music they get paid for before I trust this is not mere audience-pandering opportunism. If they're sincere, let them donate all "Saturday Night Special" royalties to some pro-gun rights cause.

I won't trust anybody who profits off of both sides in a war.

'There is often an unrealistic public expectation that officers and staff will put themselves at risk to protect the public.' [More]
Not from me there isn't.

Nor, would it appear, from "them."

Hey Brits--here's your green light to get all the guns you want. If anyone objects, just create a risk for them.

Disgusting.

We're the Only Ones Historically Troubling Enough

Lloyd, who's being held in lieu of $110,000 bail, faces up to 20 years behind bars if convicted of rape, criminal deviate conduct, criminal confinement and sexual battery...

A lawsuit filed by his ex-wife, Nicole McKinney, last summer alleges he gunned down her new husband Cornel McKinney in front of their children outside their home...

A Robbins police officer at the time, Lloyd was suspended following the shooting but eventually found work with Dolton police in January, his father said.

Though an autopsy shows he shot McKinney 24 times, the lawsuit alleges, he was not charged because Chicago police accepted his explanation that he'd acted in self defense. [More]
It's like they go out of their way to hire orcs. And this sterling "Only One" was just videotaped beating the hell out of a special needs student for not tucking in his shirt. I could swear I blogged on that, but can't seem to find it now.

I guess what we really need to stop this kind of stuff once and for all is a special exemption.

Reasonable Restrictions

Even though a pocket knife is not considered a weapon under New York State penal code, the district also prohibits students from possessing anything "that reasonably can be considered a weapon." [More]
Why is it the biggest idiots seem to gravitate toward education administration jobs in public schools and universities?

Zombies

Mike H says resist the living dead. [More]

Oh, man, does this give me a low-budget parody movie idea:

Night of the Living Statists: A small band of armed survivors is besieged by entranced hordes--instead of moaning for brains the zombie-like leftists are calling out for various freedoms as they inexorably advance...

Global "Only Ones"? What kind of right-wing extremist would oppose that?

I wonder if it's too late to give them greater support by modifying these bills to include them? Or better yet, just give them "diplomatic immunity."

We're the Only Ones Pro-Gun Enough

He said that he was pro-gun but still insisted that I need to take the holster off. [More]
With friends like that...but I guess he must be--he didn't taze, club or shoot her.

I would never particpate in an "empty holster protest." Still, setting my bias aside, what an example of "Only One" elitism--as well as the apologist mentality of some (witness "hunter and NRA member RDW, who feels even this is going "too far.")

A pet peeve: Get and post the names of the harassers.

Should Violent Police be Exempted from Mandatory Minimum Sentences?

These bills are not the way to fix that, nor the way to fix injustices in flawed mandatory minimum sentencing standards, typically championed by "law and order" types, and which will still be imposed on the rest of us. On their face they make a mockery of equal protection by bestowing unequal privileges and immunities. They are misguided attempts at facilitating police protection that, if enacted, will instead facilitate the strengthening of the police state. [More]
Today's Gun Rights Examiner column looks at the boot with the "R" on it as they propose to further the divide between citizen and "Only One."

This Day in History: October 12

I am sorry your force is not more adequate to the uses you have for it, and that such coldness appears in the neighbouring inhabitants as to preclude the assistance you had a right to expect from them. Under the circumstances you mention, I have no objection to you detaining any of the Continental troops now with you; except those which belong to the 8th Pennsylvania regiment. [More]
