GRE Round Up for May 10

There's some good stuff being turned out by the Gun Rights Examiners. I hope you're availing yourself of it, and importantly, sharing these links via emails, on blogs and forums, with your local newspaper editor, etc.

A common complaint is media bias and absence of representation for "our side."

These people work hard to change that and ask for nothing from those of us their labors serve other than to help spread the word. I hope no one thinks that's too much to ask.

Here are their latest offerings:

Ed Stone/Atlanta:
Supreme Court nominee finds no fault with Heller decision

Anthony Bouchard/Cheyenne:
From crisis to crushing of liberties, happens just that fast

Daniel White/Cleveland:
Keeping guns from terrorists

Dan Bidstrup/Denver:
Will CSU be safe for students now?

Rob Reed/Detroit:
More on how anti-terror laws threaten our Second Amendment rights

Steve D. Jones/Fort Smith:
Oklahoma open carry law in danger of veto

Dave Workman/Seattle:
Public reaction to Port Orchard shooting reveals distrust of ‘system,’ misunderstanding of law

Kurt Hofmann/St. Louis:
Will 'pro-gun' Sen. Vitter jump on anti-gun 'terrorism' hysteria bandwagon?

Go. Read. And please share these links.

You're doing that, right?

We're the Only Ones Chasing Off Our Attackers Enough

Good thing the victim was an "Only One." With a gun. [Read]

If he'd have been an ordinary disarmed DC resident, there's no telling what could have happened to him.

Although why these guys can't just use pepper spray if it's so all-fired effective is beyond me.

Gun Owner Murders Bear to Outrage of Trough-Feeders

The grizzly took Jerry Ruth by surprise, bursting from thick brush and biting his jaw almost completely off.

On the ground and barely able to see, Ruth grabbed his .41 Magnum-caliber revolver and started shooting. The third bullet pierced the bear's heart and spinal cord, killing it from 25 feet. [More]

Dang. Don't you know the Coalition of National Park Service Retirees would rather see you dead?

We're told Ruth's actions "provided fodder for a long-standing debate."

No debate about it. We have the right to the best means of defense. And we as individuals get to decide what that is. Looks like Ruth decided right.

And then there's this argument:

"Experience shows that putting firearms and grizzly bears in the same place ends up with dead grizzly bears," said Steve Cain, senior biologist for Grand Teton National Park.
Experience also shows that allowing government functionaries to disarm citizens ends up with dead humans, Steve-O.

Lots and lots of them.

Still, I can't help but wonder if anyone did an environmental impact study...or found any bells nearby.

And naturally, no "crimes against person or property" have been committed. Just possession of things our masters don't want us to have.

The Scarlet Letter

I encourage anyone reading this to find the names of the cowardly thugs involved in this AND to find their locations and other identifying details AND to post it all online for all to see. [More]
I agree that we don't use public shame as a means of discouraging abusers anywhere near enough. And the most damning scarlet letter I can think of would be "T" for "Tyranny."

I would support a call for the media to do their jobs as government watchdogs and identify government abusers. And I would support a call for grassroots effort to demand citizen oversight of police abuse investigations. And I would support a call for grassroots efforts to indict and prosecute all involved, including any allowing it to happen and covering it up.

If none of those things happen in this case, I think we're going to find support for this call growing. And then some.

Family of FBI Agent Convicted On Gun Charges: 'Battle Lost, War Still On'

I understand that many regular readers will not exactly be sympathetic to the plight of a federal agent caught up in laws he himself enforced during his career. I can't sit here and tell you I'm taking up cheerleading for the guybut I do believe his side of the story needs to be heard, and I don't see too many outside his family interested in acknowledging that. Today's Gun Rights Examiner revisits what may not be a done deal. Curious, how the only person presenting an FBI sniper's side of things is an "anti-government extremist"...
