Anybody who starts from the assumption that science is about consensus is a fraud, an idiot, or both. Science is about independent experimental replication and verification, not about show of hands. Anything decided on a show of hands is politics.

We once had a scientific “consensus” that bumblebees didn’t have the aerodynamics to fly, and that it was impossible to make a radio tuning coil smaller than about a foot long. People like Bill (Learjet) Lear were smart enough to ignore the “consensus,” and made their first milions by doing things like inventing the car radio.

Screw consensus.
