Sensenbrenner ATF Elimination Bill Sounds Good But Misses Point

Note the bill won’t eliminate functions being performed; it will merely transfer them to bureaucrats and agents in a better position to fend off scrutiny. And while more fiscal responsibility is a worthy goal, in the case of enforcing federal gun edicts, that Republican majority established largely through gun owner support ought to be focusing on the constitutionality of infringements. Repeal the gun laws that BATFE enforces, and do away with their firearms function.
The NFA is nothing more than an extremely obsolete fashion statement. Full auto, pistols with shoulder stocks, and suppressors were regarded as scary weapons in their day. These days, we know that accurate aimed fire is far more deadly than "spray and pray", that pistols with shoulder stocks are inferior weapons to either carbines or pistols, since no military or police organization uses them anymore, and that suppressors are hearing protection devices.
As for GCA '68, is that keeping guns out of the hands of ANY Chicago gangbangers who are doing the real killing in this country? NO - any thug who isn't locked up can get a gun, and that's in Chicago where guns are banned. The 4473 form is up to 4 pages, and no Chicago gangbanger ever fills one out, but that hasn't stopped them from killing 742 people last year.
It is long past time to stop funding the emperor's new clothes. Eliminate the senseless gun laws, and let the firearms function of BATFE wither on the vine.
