The "submachine gun" was described as a Makarov. I doubt this. If it was indeed an machine pistol, it was more likely a Stechkin which bears a superficial resemblance to the Makarov pattern, and which can accommodate a 20 round magazine. Interesting that Irish gangsters have no difficulty arming themselves with weapons which would be considered unusual here. (And the weapon could have been a submachine gun chambered in 9mm Makarov, such as the Izhmash Bizon.)
